Testing
Testing is the only way to know your home’s radon levels. Hiring a certified professional will provide the most accurate results. A professional testing and mitigation contractor can guarantee accurate results and also provide information on effective mitigation systems.
Cocoon is an NRPP (National Radon Proficiency Program) certified tester and offers two types of certified radon testing: Activated Charcoal Canisters and Continuous Radon Monitoring.
For both test methods, we leave a measuring device at your home for 48-96 hours, during which time closed house conditions must be observed.
According to a recent sampling taken by the US EPA across several states, nearly 1 in 3 homes checked have screening levels over the EPA’s recommended action level for radon exposure.

Activated Charcoal Canisters work by absorbing radon in the air onto charcoal granules in an airtight container. At the end of the sampling period, the container is sealed and immediately sent to a laboratory for analysis. Results are available within 1-2 days.
Continuous Radon Monitoring provides more accurate results through the use of an electronic device to measure radon in the air. The monitor provides real-time continuous measurements of radon gas, by pumping air into an ionization chamber. This type of testing is virtually tamper-proof.
